Impact of Address and GP Location on Services

  • Education Services (EY SEND or SEND team): Provided by the borough where the family lives, regardless of GP location.
  • Health Services (e.g., Paediatricians, Therapists, Audiology): Provided by Barnet teams if the GP is based in Barnet, even if the family lives in another borough.

Recommendation: To ensure better coordination of services, it is best if the family's GP and home address are in the same borough.

Developmental Paediatrics

Community-based paediatricians specialising in developmental and ongoing health needs for children and young people from 0 to 18 years, unless the child attends a special needs school, where the school's paediatric team may provide care. Developmental paediatricians work in multidisciplinary teams with other professionals to support the child and family, ensuring continuity of care and liaising with hospital services as needed.

Early Years SEND Advisory Team (Previously called Pre-school Teaching Team)

Supports children under 5 with developmental delays or disabilities living in Barnet. They provide home-based teaching support to children under the age of 5. They work with parents and carers to promote developmental progress. Referrals are reviewed at a multi-agency meeting.

Children's Integrated Therapies (CIT)

Provides assessment and therapy tailored to children's needs:

  • Universal Services: Group sessions at Children's Centres and schools.
  • Targeted Services: Early intervention and therapy blocks.
  • Specialist Services: Complex care with trans-disciplinary interventions for conditions like dysphagia.

The CIT team works with children and their families in schools, Children's Centres, clinics, and at home to assess needs and deliver therapy. Children and young people with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) will receive therapy according to their plan's recommendations.

The team collaborates with education and social care professionals to provide integrated support and shares information only to improve care outcomes.
